Default Which Cylinder?

My brother just called and wants to know which cylinder to put in him 870 Wingmaster for shooting slugs.
I looked over the last few pages and found one recommendation to use nothing tighter than Improved. Is this right? So either Modified or improved cyl?
Thanks.
Brian

I'd say improved cylinder, or cylinder. You can buy rifled choke tubes.

you said use nothing tighter than Improved...then you said so either a IC or Modified...im 99% sure that choke goes cylinder-Improved-Mod-Full..open to tightest. id use a cylinder...but heard improved works too but i dont know..i dont shoot slugs..to me i dont think choking a solid mass of lead is a brilliant idea..if it doesnt damage the barrel i dont think it would shoot well...so either IC or cylinder

Ok, I was thinking that Modified was the most open. And I don't know what cylinder is. I do know that he has only 3 chokes; full, Modified, Improved.
I'll tell him Improved.
Thanks.

Cylinder bore is straight tube, no choke. Good for old style slugs and buckshot. Shooting slugs in improved cylinder choke should be no problem. It is one step more restricted at the muzzle. Modified is more restrictive than improved cylinder. Full is most restrictive choke.
