.22 DEBATE
Best .22 made! (PLINKING/SQUIRELL HUNTING)
1.Remington Model 597. (Fixed magazine problem) 2.Marlin Model 60. (Own one already will buy another one) 3.Savage Model 64. (I dont car who ya r dats an ugly gun right dar) 4. Forget the Ruger 10/22! Yes it does have aftermarket goodies, but out of the box? LET THE FACTS AND OPINIONS FLY. |
RE: .22 DEBATE
Ruger 10/22, nuff said.

RE: .22 DEBATE
Ruger 10/22
|
RE: .22 DEBATE
I wouldsay a Anschutz or a Cooper would be the best. And a Kimber would be on that list as well.
|
RE: .22 DEBATE
The only Rem 597 I handled had the WORST trigger ever!
I would throw in the Marlin 39 or Win 9422, even the BLR22 |
RE: .22 DEBATE
I shoot my dads remington nylon and it seems to be a pretty good gun, its old but never jams and is accurate enough to take down squirrels at 50 yards,
|
RE: .22 DEBATE
I have no first-hand experience with these, but if were to buy a premium .22 LR, I would have to decide between the Dakota 22, Cooper 57, Kimber 82, Sako Finnfire, or one of the Anschutz 1700 series rifles.
In the meantime, I really like my Ruger 10/22 with a Kimber of Oregon barrel. |
RE: .22 DEBATE
As far as the very best, I would say Kimber of Oregon model 82, in Super America grade. As far as best for the money, I like the CZ 452. Great rifle, great trigger(Set trigger model), above average walnut, and a great price. Plus they make it in a left handed configuration(As did Kimber). Tom.

RE: .22 DEBATE
10/22. No brainer.
|
RE: .22 DEBATE
The 10/22 is the best for the money. If you have $500 to $1500 to spend you could get better. I love my 10/22 shoots great with no problems. I would get a 10/22 and spend some money on a good scope.
|
RE: .22 DEBATE
I f you are spending under $500 I woould vote for the CZ with the improved trigger. Over $500 then I would go with a kimber. I like the ruger for the ability to get aftermarket parts and customize the gun but the plain jane original cannot beat some of the bolt actions for accuracy. Just my thoughts and my experiences.:D
|
RE: .22 DEBATE
I like my Marlin bolt action, though we shoot a lot of 10-22's as well. We shoot tacks at 50 yards with all of them.
|
RE: .22 DEBATE
Marlin Model 60. I love that gun!
|
RE: .22 DEBATE
i've only shot ruger 10/22's (own a bicentennial edition) and a savage belonging to the drummer of my band.
the savage jams or misfires about once every 20 shots. no sir. |
RE: .22 DEBATE
i have a savage 64 it is ugly but mine is a great gun for $90 i paid for it knew it has a tasco 4x32 scope on it that has been on it for 6 years and i have never adjusted it and i do not treat this gun very good it is my truck gun and it has had alot of ammo put thru it it just doesnt shoot lead tips it will jam but if they are copper coated it is fine it has killed alot of squirrel, rabbits, birds and a few pheasants on theground but i would have to say the 10/22 is the best but i have a marlin 39 also so i have no need for a 10/22

RE: .22 DEBATE
I doubt it's the best 22 made but I was given a Winchester model 67 22 short, long and long rifle two weeks ago by my friends father. It's a single shot with iron sights but it's got a nice trigger and is plenty accurate for me. All it cost me was dinner for two.
|
RE: .22 DEBATE
Cooper is proably the best, although andschutz is up there in some of thier premium rifles. ALso Walther makes a fine one. And the Finnish Lion is pretty hot.
But the old Winchester Model 52 is still the standard by which .22's are judged |
RE: .22 DEBATE
For what I am willing to spend on a 22LR, I find the 10/22 to be totally satisfactory, slip in a 25 round clip loaded to 21 or 22 and have at it.
My favorite 22 is a 223, rifle-wise the AR models come to mind, Colt and Bushmaster. |
RE: .22 DEBATE
for the money you can't beat a Marlin 60. For a little more $ you can't beat a 10/22!
|
RE: .22 DEBATE
Low cost the 10/22 and the Marlin 60 are both good enough shooters.
But my all time favorite 22 is the Remington 513 TargetMaster. Now that's a good shooting 22lr. I got two of them one scoped and one with redfield peep sights. 200yd prarie dog wackers. |
RE: .22 DEBATE
ORIGINAL: longrifle1000 I wouldsay a Anschutz or a Cooper would be the best. And a Kimber would be on that list as well. |
RE: .22 DEBATE
Get a kimber when you grow up and can apperciate it's quality!
|
RE: .22 DEBATE
I am happy for you guys that feel you need the most expensive guns on the market. But just give me a Marlin mod 60, which is more accurate than any of you can use under field conditions, and I'll spend the difference on ammo!;)
|
RE: .22 DEBATE
If you got the money buy the expensive ones if you don't, The cheap ones do just as good as job.And it can't be proven any different when it comes to game animals. To me a 30-06 savage is as good as a 30-06 weatherby.
|
RE: .22 DEBATE
Give me a CZ 452 .
|
RE: .22 DEBATE
If the person is a littel tite on budget the savage mark II 22 LR. and if you can find a box of Winchester Dina points I feel has an realy smooth action and a free flowted barrle i can pick off acorns at 25 yards and pocker chips at fifty yards all after noon. and if that dosent sound good enough to ya. If ya ever see ya a black bird sitten exactly a 147 yards out ame what you think is 6 inch. hi and scuize one off it will make your hart stop
