.270 or 30-06?

Well I used to shoot an 06 but ended up trading that gun in ona .270 due to the 06 hitting me too hard. (2 shoulder surgeries here). Now it could have just been the gun that I was shooting, but even without a recoil pad on my Winchester .270 it doesnt kick nearly as bad as my .06 did. Being able to shoot a 130gr. bullet and still have all of that killing power is what did it for me. Not to mention that my family has shot the .270 for about 4 generations. It is a personal preference really. With the 30.06 you also have a bit better of a big game rifle if that is something that you would ever want to do.

30-06. I've hunted from Alaska to Florida with mine. Model 770 purchased in 1971 by my father in law, then given to me a few years back. Most versatile cartridge around, especially if you load your own.

I have shot the 30-06 and the 270 alot. I have found that the .270 that I shoot, whichis a Savage, is on the money. I can shoot a nickel at 100m w the .270. I prefer the 30-06 for an all around hunting rifle. CMP has some military grade 30-06 which is pretty much the BEST and the most accurate that you can get. The .270 flies a little faster, but does'nt have the impact I like from the 30-06

if it weren't for the 30-06, we would not have a 270......or a 280......or a 25-06......or a 338-06......or many of the other great rounds that have been spawned off of the 06 case.

. But I'd take an 06' over a .270.
