I got a Bushnell scope for it. But if I am not satisfied I will replace the one on my .243.

Three acctually (three bad ones that is). Two Nitrogen leaks and one that would not track. Considering the number of total scopes I came in contact with, it was way too many. Too many problems. Hence, Schmidt and Bender...
So how did Swarovski resolve the problems...?

Like mentioned a fixed or low power variable would be the best for the 30/30/ Though you can't go wrong with a 3x9x40 either, it just might look a bit off mounted on top!

I will admit nikon are very bright though I had an aweful expereince with a UCC and question their durability b/c of it. Leupold are over priced but they still make a good product. I have had zero problems with the M series fixed and Vari x III's I have owned or still own. I however do not like their VX III, for its price it is behind in features and to my eye. For the money the Conquest is the better of the 2(constant eye relief, itched reticle, better coating and more precise in tracking to name some reason why I prefer Zeiss). For less money the elite4200 is pretty tough to beat in optics, though shallow in ER. But if you must buy a leupold the VXII is the one to get IMHO. Basically a Vari x III re-wrapped it seems to be to be the best they offer in a variable scope at present. If your looking less than thisI think the elite 3200, FFII, etc offer more for your dollars, though just my opinion. I also hate that leupold has gone away from a 1 piece tube except on the Mark and LPS models. I consider this a poor move on leuys part and don't buy for a minute their arguementof more peices are stronger vs just cheaper to produce.

2 cents worth

What's the best brand when it comes to rifle scopes? Im looking for a 3-9X40 scope to put on my .30-30. Or does the .30-30 not need that kind of scope. Any suggestions?
The "best" scopes are Schmidt and Bender's. Period. But I don't think thats what you mean.

I wouldn't put a 3-9x40 on a 30/30. To each his own, but its too much for a 100 yard rifle, which, lets be frank, is really what a 30/30 is meant for.

I have a Leupold Euro 1-4x20mm on my win 94 in 30/30 AI. I taken deer out to 180 yards with it. High power is highly over-rated. The scope I have goes for about $300.

Not bad for a 100 yard rifle.;). Sorry Swamp just have to disagree with the 100 figure

Hornadyhas a lever specific offering, I would guess that is what the poster is refering too.

cma, ah come on 3 pieces is more superior than 1 piece. Don't believe me ask any leupold tech. Though when you ask how? They often say UMMM, AHHH...you get the jist.;)

The 2x7 Pro-Staff would be hard to beat for the 30-30 or any other brush hunting gun.
