Dissing 150 Grainers??

I have been reading another forum.... everyone there says 150 grain bullets for a 300 magnum are no good.... what's up with that?

150 gr. bullets NORMALLY require 1-12" to 1-14" rates of twist instead of a 1-10" .. WHAT THE HELL???? is that all about also

Umm....

1. Ask all you want, that's part of the reason this place is here...perhaps the main reason
2. Maybe they feel that using 150gr bullets is a waste of the 300magnum's potential OR maybe they feel that they don't hold up when they're pushed at 300 velocities. If that's the case go with a partitioned bullet or barnes.
3. Lighter bullets are generally shorter than there heavier partners. Shorter bullet lengths require slower twist rates to stabilize. Longer bullets require faster twist rates to stabilize. I highly doubt that .30 caliber 150gr bullets are going to have problems "flying apart" from too fast twist-rates.

150 grain bullets will work fine. HOWEVER at 300 Mag Velloocity, they can do a lot of meat damage. If you don't mind the extra damage, go ahead and use them. The 180 grain is just a better choice for the 300 Win Mag. I know because I have tried both. If I were to use 150 grain bullets, I would load them down to about 2800 fps. JMO.

Heh, heh, James, did they pass-through at all? My coworker was talking about the last deer he got with an '06. Great mushroom, turned the lungs to goo, the deer dropped straight down and did not move a step!

I took a doe with my .300 win mag using 165 grn Fail safes this past Saturday and it did some good damage to the shoulder. Actually pretty much wrecked the shoulder. I used the 165 grn, as I was getting 1" groups at 100 yards and 2-3" groups at 200 yards.
