First shot, you forgot something important. He has to know the distance before those scopes will help him.

Excellentpoint!!! And when you get out past 250 Yds, distance becomes a LOT harder to judge and the bullet drop much more extreme.Out past 300 yds, missjudging can mean a complete miss or even worse a wonded animal.

In fact, just last seasonI was in a shooting house wtih a rock solid rest. There wasvery lightbreese blowing directly down wind in direction of the shot. I had been watching the deer for 20 minutes at an estimated 300 Yds and I had the 300 Yd sight pin squarely behind the shoulder, a third of the way up.... perfect ........ except........ I simply was notcomfortable with my range estimate .....sooooo.......I passed on the shot.

Later, standing exactly where the deer had been, I used my buddies laser rangefinder and found the distance to the shooting house I had been into be 390 Yards. Using the 300 Yd Pin (instead of the 400 YD), theBallistic Plex would have compensated for 13.5" of the 29" of drop at 400 Yds. In other words I would have shot 16" low.

It should go without saying, but if you are going to be shooting over 250-300 Yds.......You need a laser range finder!
