Rifle & scope packages
I'm in the market right now for a 30.06 rifle and have been to a few stores and found some nice hunting packages on their shelves. I saw a rem. 700(.270) with a nikon prostaff 3x9x40 for 549.99. and a savage bolt(30.06) with a simmons 3x9x40 for 479.99. Now, i looked at the nikon scope on the gun and looked nice , but kinda cheap.. (all plastic) not saying it's not good. IMO. But the savage looked real nice and felt good, but what about the scope. Are simmons anygood, and are they worth it. I figure i could always change the scope later if i didn't like, but when you buy the package you don't get as good of stock etc.
So, the big question is,Are the packages worth the money or buy the better gun and better scope seperate ????? I'd rather not buy used !

RE: Rifle & scope packages
I would take a savage over a Remington in any Caliber any day !!!!
As far as the question about combo packages.....just buy the savage 30-06 and put a decent scope on it. There is nothing wrong with a Simmons scope as long as you buy the Aetec. I have the 3.8X12X44mm on my 30-06 and it works great. Good scope for the $$$. It isn't the top of the line but gets the job done and is alot easier on the pocket book.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Why would you choose a Savage over a comprable Remington 700?
