Default 7mm-08rem..

tell me alittle about this round for deer? personal experience wise.....
how the wounds where, and if they did what a 308win does?.what bullets sizes are good for northern bucks.
i have no experience with this round except knowing it is a 308win case necked down to be able to put a 284. caliber round into it.i own a 308win bolt action and i am fond of it but my father uses that gun when i hunt with him.i have heard nothing but praise from this round.
i have decided to get a browning BLR lightning in 7mm-08rem. i will not use a scope, but i will put peep sights on it.
i know they have 140gr. premium bullets and classic 150gr. bullets. i also thought one company made 120gr. and 125gr. bullets for them.

thank you for your time in giving me your expereince on it.

IF YOUR GOING TO USE THE GUN IN 7mm08 FOR DEER ONLY THEN I WOULD SAY THAT ITS THE PERFECT DEER ROUND, NO RECOIL, LIGHT IN WEIGHT, ACCURUTE. LIKE THIS ROUND IN THE EITHER THE REMINGTON MODEL 7, OR REMINGTON MOUNTAIN RIFLE.

Quilly, I have used a 7mm-08 for the last 3 years taking an 8 point, and a doe. I feel the round does a great job on deer size game. My rifle is a Remington model 7 in SS, and is easy to tote around all day at 6 1/2 pounds.

good luck !!!!!!

Forgot to mention, I used Federal 140 gr. NBT ammo...

I have used the Browning BLR (not the Lightning version, but the older one with the straight stock) in 7mm/08 on many occasions, and seen it used on many more. The 139-140gr bullet is all you will ever need for deer. The 139gr Hornady Spire Point/Interlock or SST seem to work well, as does the 140gr Nosler Partition. For a mixed deer/elk hunt, I like the 150gr Nosler Partition or Barnes X-Bullet. For elk or moose in thick woods, I recommend the 160gr Partition, TBBC or Swift A-Frame.

I've seen about 15 deer and 5 elk shot with this caliber, and all of 'em went down quickly. None got back up. <img src=icon_smile_dead.gif border=0 align=middle>

I have been using the 08 for about 6 years now.I always use hornady light magnum with the 139 grain bullet. I greatly prefer the SST due to some great terminal results. This year I wasnt able to lay my hands on the SST's so im back to shooting the 139 grain interlock bullet.I got the first deer of the year Saturday and it worked great. Not as great a wound as the SST but meat on the table just the same!!

I was thinking about getting one also. Here is what I found about them on a web site. Is most of this true?

Shoots flatter than the 30-06 Springfield!
100 yard energy is four times greater than a 44 Magnum revolver!
Recoil is a little more than a 243 Winchester!
Tack driving accuracy is inherited from the 308 Winchester!
Point blank range is over 300 yards (+/- three inches!
Cheap to reload and brass last longer than most!
Available in lightweight short action rifles!
Versitile! From varmits to moose!

Guns cause crime, like flies cause garbage.
