RE: Are there any inexpensive sabot slugs>?
I just shot 5 different brands last night through my 870 rifled barrel.
Lightfield Hybred Sabot 1 1/4oz 2 3/4in 1400fps Federal Barnes Expander Sabot 1oz 2 3/4in 1450fps Remington 1oz 2 3/4in Sabot 1450fps Winchester Super X Sabot 1oz 2 3/4in 1350fps All four boxes cost me around $35. I also happened to have a box of Winchester Supreme 400gr 2 3/4 Sabots. The newest shell from Wincester. My gun absolutely hates these 400gr shells. They flew all over the place. My gun also did not shoot the Federals or the Remingtons very well. The Lightfields were better but still not as tight a group as I would have liked. The Winchester Super X shells flew the best. Interestingly enough, they have the slowest muzzle velocity. The group was not ultra tight but the holes did touch in a pattern shaped sorta like this \. I should note that I was resting the gun on a sandbag and using another sandbag against my shoulder to manage the recoil so I could have been adding some torque. I'll know more when I can shoot from a vice. As for now, I'm going to buy some boxes of Winchester Super X and go with them this season. -Mike |
