RE: Purchasing new rifle
While the 25-06 and 270 are great choices for deer, they are certainly not ideal for elk.Having taken a fair number of elk with various cartridges, and witnessing many more killed,I will no longer hunt elk with bullets smaller than 7mm.The smaller calibers certainly can kill elk,but they do have more limitations as to shot selection.

I don't know if the t-3 comes in it but I would pick the 6.5X55 you can get it in 100gr up to 160gr bullets that covers all you want to hunt from yotes to elk. It does not Kick and punish you at all. Just my 2 cents

RE: Purchasing new rifle
If it was primarily for deer and occasionally for Elk within 200 yds shots, I'd go with .30-06. If you're hunting Elk out to further distances I'd go with .300 WM. It's a bit more than you need for deer and certain will do a number of coyotes. But it'll get the job done, if you do your part.

RE: Purchasing new rifle
I have a Tikka T-3 in 30-06 and it is a sweet rifle. You will not regret the purchase. As for caliber, I would go with the 270 if you hunt coyotes a lot and a 30-06 if deer and elk are you're main quarry. Good luck.:D
