Like I have stated before, I have killed ALOT of big game and know as well as others on this site that a heart lung shot very seldom drops animals in there tracks. When I first purchased my Sendero years ago I shot a basket horned buck at about 150 yards, made a perfect hear lung shot, he ran about 75 yards, was deffinitely dead but ran, like 9 out of 10 heart lung shot animals do. He was shot using a 300 Ultra mag with 150gr. Sciroccos doing over 3400fps. It jellied the lungs, blew up the heart and blood shot half of the deer. I know a little about hydostatic shock, it doesnt get much worst than a 300 ultra mag on a deer, but guess what, he still ran. I no longer use my ultra mags to hunt with, they are pretty much unessasary. My 280 or 243 kills just as dead. To be honest I have seen more deer dropped in there tracks with a 243 or 6mm than with ANY other round. Why, because when the bullet doesnt exit, the full force of energy is absorbed in the chest cavity and doesnt exit out the other side with the bullet.
I am done argueing with you and will no longer post on this thread.

HuntingNet received a complaint regarding the argument 3 of you were waging in this topic. Several posts have been edited to remove the rules violations. This is a 6-year-old topic that somehow got resurrected and then turned into a bunch of arguing and rules violations.

If you went back to the Original Poster's (OP's) post, he asked if anybody had actually used a .243 on elk and, if so, did they have any cartridge recommendations. Both are legitimate questions and several members were able to provide some observations from experience.

Sadly, somebody posted that the OP was terminally ill and passed away. God rest his soul.

This is a public warning for 3 members who are violating the rules. If you're unsure if you're one of the 3 warned members, please send me a PM. Please do not continue the argument or you will receive a temp ban. If you have any questions or concerns, please send me a PM.

Somebody just got a 48-hour ban for continued rules violations. FYI, the member who complained about the arguing and rules violations was NOT one of the 3 involved parties. If you have questions, please PM me. If you feel foolish and want to continue posting the argument after a public warning, the length of the temp bans will increase.

For the majority of members who debated this issue civilly and provided a lot of useful personal experience (either yours or somebody you personally observed), thank you for making this forum and website such a valuable and helpful place for fellow hunters. Please PM me if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks and good hunting.

I'm sure it's probably been done, but it's far from being an optimum elk round.
