1988 Win Model 70 for $300 - Good Buy???
Ok guys I am looking for my first rifle (see my other post). I have been looking at new ones due to the fact that used ones typically aren't much cheaper.
However, an employee that works for my dad has a 1988 Winchester Model 70 rifle with a Redfield scope (3x-9 possibly?) that he is trying to sell. I have not seen it yet but he is only asking $300 for gun with scope. This sounds like a good deal to me but I know nothing about gun values. What do you guys think??? How was Winchester's quality then? Is this gun better quality than todays Model 70s? Any input on Redfield scopes? Decent quality or would I be better off replacing this?
Any insight you guys can provide would be appreciated.
It is in .270 caliber which is what I am looking for.

redfields aren't too bad actually. i've heard of ppl replacing lower leupolds with higher redfields so they're not bad. as for winchester 70's heck i'd go for it. make sure to check out the barrel condition the action and just the whole receiver. make sure everything looks oiled and not rusted. heck, if i had $300 i'd probably guy it. are we talking wood or black stock?

It has a wood stock with blued barrel.

sounds good to me, just make sure there isn't something obviously wrong with it.
