RE: Best gun ever
Depends on what you plan on doing with the gun. What do you want to do with the gun?

RE: Best gun ever
BuckWow - you seem new to shooting. This is a question that no one can really answer. "Guns" is a realtive term. Are you talking rifles, shotguns, muzzleloaders, or the various types of handguns. Like any other tool, 'guns' come in different actions and chamberings for different purposes. Will this be used for hunting? If so, what will you hunt? Or will it be used for target practice or self defense. Your size can also dictate what 'gun' you should select.
you are going to have to narrow this down so the readers in here can give you some sound advice from experience as well as personal preference. |

RE: Best gun ever
I think that is a fair question.
I had never shot a 270 until last year. WOW that is a great gun. When I shoot my 44 mag Smith 629 revolver - WOW what a great gun. I shot an anelope with my buddies 308 Rem Auto - WOW what a great gun. When I shoot my Ruger 300 WM - Why did I buy that thing? When I shoot my 22-250 - WOW what a little cannon. That's a good question to remind me of the great guns I have shot. |
RE: Best gun ever
definatly the mossberg 500 shoots a 12 gauge sabbot with the rifled barrel bigger than a 50 cal can change the barrel to a 12 gauge with any size choke or a 50cal inline muzzleloader or a 20 gauge or a 410 and the price is under 500 dollers

Hee hee.
So, in Africa aren't we the bait? And size is a relative thing there. Leave the worries behind and take a .375 Holland and Holland. Small enough to carry, shoots flat enough to get out there, & can argue with the "slightly larger" quarry. And if money is no object, what the hey, get a double rifle! Hmm. What does a safari cost nowadays, $40,000? |

Please reply back! But if you want a modern rifle, get a 7X57mm Mauser-actioned lightweight, and shoot 175-grain bullets in it- Nosler Partiton jacket softpoints for smaller, thin-skinned stuff, including leopard & lion, and use monolithic solids of the same weight for brain shots on elephant, Cape Buffalo, and Rhino.......... Whatever riufle you select, make sure it is a controlled-round feed if a bolt gun. If you have no worries about cost, get a British double in .577 Nitro or 600 Nitro Express. Next, go to the range and learn to shoot it! Good luck! |

RE: Best gun ever
I think that the best gun ever is the one that you shoot the best or one that has killed your greatest trophy or posssibly means the most to you, such as sentimental reasons as maybe a relative gave it to you.

If you are hunting deer, lion, bear etc... and need a quick follow up shot please invest in a good autoloader deer rifle. Remington just came out with there new model 750 Woodsmaster that you can buy at Walmart for about $584. It is a great rifle I just bought one and have put about 300 shots through it without any problems. If you are not a Remington fan, (whichI suggest you should be) than buy a Brownong BAR. Have fun in Africa and kill some for us.

RE: Best gun ever
Can you imagine walking into a gun store and saying "I am looking for the best gun ever and price is no object". I'm sure the fellow behind the counter would take a deep breath and proceed to sell you "the best gun ever" which he just happened to have on the rack. He may try to adjust the price up a bit while you weren't looking and add the "best scope and sling ever" to it.

Thompson Center Arms Encore. Change barrels to go from shotgun, muzzleloader to rifle. A couple other changes and you have a handgun. I have a .223 rifle, 50 cal muzzleloader and 30-06 pistol for my setup. Custom shop makes numerous barrel cal in all sizes not to mention the everyday cals.
