I looked at one of the new mossberg rifles at wal-martand they look alot like the savages. I read an article where the accuracy was very respectable. The one I saw was only 264.00 without scope. It had a synthetic stock, matte blue finish, recessed bore, and the bolt was embossed with the mossberg name. The forward part of the bolt and the barrel nut reminded me the mostabout a savage rifle. They do have a 1 in 10" twist with free floating22" barrels. You can get them in .243, .308,.270 and.30-06.

When did these come out???? am I just 'behind'???

Personally, I'm a mossy shotgun fan, but be carefull with this statement:
i know mossberg shotguns are top notch
Some guys with possibly no first-hand expirience seem to rip on them, I don't really get that, though

For the price and what I have read on thetests and the opinions of others, yes I would invest in one. I almost bought the one I was looking at but I didnt have the cash.
Here are some links with reviews and opinions.

Personally, if it were me, I would look long and hard at the Stevens 200. It is the old Savage 110, and all 110 parts fit it. Try and find spare bolts, barrels, or triggers for that Mossy. And Mossbergs customer service left a very bad taste in my mouth. Good luck

but they offer the ATR in a marine coat finish which is actually better then stainless. And if they shoot good you would have yourself a top notch no hassle low maintanence hunting rifle.

Also id like to know more about how mossbergs customer service left a bad taste in your mouth??? Ive owned only mossberg shotguns and will probably only own mossberg shotguns. Over the 12 years of owning mossberg shotguns ive had to get parts through mossbergs customer service a few times and each time their customer service is nothing but awesome, all i ever had to do was ship the bad part to them and 1 to 2 weeks later I'd have the new part free of charge didnt even have to reimburse them for shipping. from my experience with their customer service its deffinately the best customer service I have ever delt with absolutely no hassles their customer service alone is enough reason to buy their products which they stand behind 110%.

Mossberg rifles have always been pretty accurate. They just aren't finished that well, and many of them have hardwood rather than walnut for stocks.

But you get what you pay for, and for the money, they're plenty good!
