Leupold 3x9x40 vxII or a Bushnell 3200 would fit the bill for midrange a little higher and you go VXIII or 4200 bushnell. I would imagine conditions would be severe in that part of the world and you would want something that is proven. ..I am leery of Burris scopes having bought 2 and having lots of problems with them although I am impressed by the newer ones coming out they would be my 3rd choice . You are also dealing with a caliber that doesn't like scopes and will bust an inferior one in a heartbeat. Also consider eye relief that will come in handy with a heavy recoiling rifle.

I have found no problem with my latest scope, which happens to be a Burris. But I also have had no problemw with my 3200 or 4200 Bushnells and Loopy Varix III either. I had a buddy save and scrouch for his first loopy he opted for the Varix II last fall, 3rd shot it cracked...yeap cracked. Sent away and got it back in 3 weeks to the range and this time it wouldn't hold zero, sent away again and they sent him a new one this time....no problems yet, but he went back to his 3200 and tagged 2 animals last fall and really wonders why he even bothered. Now this isn't a loopy dig, but really all scopes can fail and some due. the thing that sets loopy apart is a 3 week turn around on that failure and CS. I would recommend and do recommend Leupolds, but I also think Bushnell have a very nice product at a lower price. I tried Burris out of a couple of references from Bushnell elite users and really I couldn't be more pleased...but I am still in the wedding night phase, so no real time for coming home late and yelling...yet. Would I recommend Burris, yes b/c of the references and these guys who own them, I know are much the same as me, so I have faith in their opinions. Personally I have shot through it a few 100 rounds and it is bang on, very clear and tracks the best in the adjustment departments of any of my other scopes...so I think they do make a good product.

Again I say try and buy the best scope you can. I forgot you have a weatherby, so I would try and go as high as possible. I really would look at the Zeiss Conquest as well, personally never seen through it as the shop here don't carry zeiss or swaroski except on money down special order. I think it was the same price as the 4200 and less than both the Varix III or Burris Signature Series.

I have only ever owned over 10 power once and really never needed it. The higher the power the more steady your rest must be, I don't know anybody who can shot free hand well with 10 power...just to shaky. really only you can decide, but the amount of higher variable power scopes I see available for sale in shops and on ebay makes me believe most think they do, but don't really. I say save on the power and go with a better all arounder.

Speaking of ebay, you should check their as well many NIB scopes and others well kept. You might be able to move up without spending much more than new. I think most have transferable lifetime warranties to boot.

I have been looking around and here is what you can buy on Iceland, Tasco,Leupold, zeissMeopta, Nightforce and i saw a Nonrico somewere i can only get the Bushnell by downpayment. It realy sucks living just north of hell but i just have to live with it. SO i´m probably going to buy it over the internet if you guys could tell me where i can find a good deal i would be very greatful<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>. If anyone have some good advise on scope buying i´m always listening. Thank you for all the info you have given me. By the way here is a small pricecheck i did i think they are very expensive but maybe i´m wrong.

ZEISS Diavari V 3-9x42 just under US$ 1100
ZEISS Diavari V 3-12x56 US$ 1290

What about Cabelas. I saw they had zeiss conquest for 400-800. Also have all the other brands as well, if your dumping a grand USD look at swaroski, kahles or the likes. Don't forget to check ebay, i have seen lots of top quality optics on their for good prices.
