Wingmaster price
I am looking at a 870 Wingmaster. The gun shop has 2 that he recently bought that are 12 gauge, 2 3/4" chambers, no chokes modified barrel. Both are spotless and have the boxes. He is asking $340, but I know there is room to haggle. These are nice guns....both look new, no scratches. What are they worth? I don't really need one....but I want one.:)

RE: Wingmaster price
is the wingmaster semi-auto? if so then haggle away. if its pump then it sounds too high. just bought a used but almost new 870 express pmp for $225. but then again if you just have to have it then.......
by the way great sig.:D |
RE: Wingmaster price
300 bucks is a good deal on a 870 wingmaster. 275 is better. The wing master is not to be confused with S. IL hunter's 870, which sounds like an 870 express. The wingmaster is a high gloss blued gun with nice walnut as opposed tot he parkerized and beech stocked 870 express. Same tried and true action but the wingmaster is much more costly to make. The wingmaster seems to me to be Rem's attempt to make a model 12 killer.
It is a nice gun |
RE: Wingmaster price
Does the barrel have the vent rib?
Is the modified choke barrel what you want/need? |
RE: Wingmaster price
You didn't say which model 870 they were are they the express model with brushed blueing or they sound like the old models as they don't have any choke tubes which most of the new ones come with. I would offer him $225.00 and if he dosen't take it I bet you will find a deal before October on one. This is the most common shotgun on the market and they really flooded the market with them. They are a good inexspensive gun and many a kids first gun. Good luck with it Mike

RE: Wingmaster price
Its not an express, its a Wingmaster. It is in much better condition that the one pictured. It has the vent rib and a 28 inch barrel. I have been trying to find a price online for a near perfect Wingmaster.
BTW...$225 for a used 870 express is highway robbery. They are $228 here new at Wallyworld. |

RE: Wingmaster price
I don't know, that is more than half of what they are new, and you don't get screw in chokes or anything. Not to mention if you were not stuck on it being a "wingmaster" you could get a brand new pump gun for less than what that one is used. Not to mention it would shoot 3 inch shells and come with screw in chokes. It just wouldn't be as pretty. Heck I think if you looked around you could get a combo with a rifled barrel for that kind of money.
You could get a nova and it would chamber 3 1/2 inch loads if you wanted, they are butt ugly, but they work;) Or you could get a brand new browning BPS for around 450 or so and they are just as pretty and work just as good as a wingmaster in my opinion. Plus it will chamber 3 inch shells and comes with three choke tubes. Options, Options? Really depends on what you want I guess. I just paid almost 500 bucks for a used A5 when I could have gotten a new auto for that or less from another maker. I decided that is what I wanted though. Paul |

RE: Wingmaster price
It is:D and thanks for going to the trouble to post it for me. I think the one I am looking at is in better condition, is it worth that much more than the one listed for $225? The Wingmasters at the local gun shows are always $275-350. Most have been used alot, some abused, some with poly chokes etc. Not what I am looking for, per say. The new ones around here are very hard to find, and the used ones are usually more "used" than what I am looking for.

RE: Wingmaster price
Well it really all depends on what you want.. and what you want to use it for. I'd personally opt for a newer gun w/ the interchangable chokes...but if you find an older gun in excellent condition it may be worth a lot more later on in life. Just like the old Browning Belgium A5s.. if they're in good condition they can fetch $1k or more.. Depends on what you're wanting out of it.

RE: Wingmaster price
A big part of the price they are asking is the condition of the guns. In "very good" condition, an 870 Wingmaster should go for about $100 less. I bought one in "good" condition a couple years ago for $175. So you are paying a little bit of a premium for a gun that is in "as new" condition. Once you hunt with it a few times, it will depreciate. If this is going to be a working gun, I would get a new 870 Express and have the option of the Rem-chokes and the Simm's recoil pad. It is also a lot less reflective; an advantage if you are hunting waterfowl or turkeys.

RE: Wingmaster price
Boy do you have bad luck ,I just sold my Wingmaster 2 3/4 for 50.00. Someone got a good deal and it wasn't me . Actually I traded it in on my new Mossberg 935 Autoloader ,but I didn't want to go through all the politic's of outright selling it here in Ontario ,and it hasn't been used muchin the lastfew year's ,so now that I got a new Shotgun the old wingmaster would have started rusting .

RE: Wingmaster price
hey dont be gettin the wingmaster confused with the express. the express is always cheaper than the wingmaster. the old wingmasters are usually pretty pricey. if they are perfect conditon with box like you say youll not find one cheaper ina shop. i have a wingmaster magnum 12 ga and i give 300 for it and its not in perfect shape. mine has a 3" chamber and a 30" full choke bbl. i think it was made for turkey hunting in the 80's before choke tubes were popular cause the long bbl give tighter patterns and better range. if you like the wingmasters you saw buy one they are worth the price. the 28 ga book for $650, the .410 book at $550 and the 20 ga at around $400. $340 sounds like a good price on the guns. hope this helps

RE: Wingmaster price
A couple of months ago I saw a nice used Wingmaster for $200, and by the time I went to the bank for some cash and got back, it was gone.
Luckily, I found one a little nicer for $220, and this time, I had the cash in my pocket, so that puppy followed me home. I'm a fan of older, walnut-stocked firearms. My first shotgun was a Remington 870 Express in 20 gauge, and it's a great gun, but I'll tell ya, the Wingmaster is so much more beautiful that it doesn't even seem like the same kind of shotgun. |
