One of the AK-47 variants can be had for a bargain, and 7.62 X39 ammo is real cheap in quantity. Not a very popular hunting caliber, but high on the fun factor and pretty "fuel efficient" for plinking.

I myself would have to to agree with the majority of the the people about the 223 being the perfect choice .But i would have to say that the remington Model 700 SPS would be my choice due the the reliability and cost.I dont think you can go wrong when you you have a remington in your gun cabinet
