Very rugged and durable not to mention accurate, unlike the M16

You can call the m16/ar-15 alot of things, but inaccurate is not one of them. They are the most accurate small arm the United States has ever issued, and as such they dominate service rifle competetion.
I will put mymillitaryM1 up against anymillitary M16 out there....shooting targetat100-800yrds using rifle sight and we will see which is more accurate.

Uh oh. Sounds like a challenge. I'll be watching American Rifleman to see Wolf651 listed as the winner at the next Camp Perry match... ;)

My choice, among military arms, would be the M14. More accurate than, and as reliable as,the M1, and the 20 round box magazine is a considerable improvement over the M1's 8 round clip thumb crusher...

For a civilian "hunting rifle",I like my Remington 700's. I've got three of them (ADL's in .243 and .30-06, and a BDL in 7mm Rem. Mag.), and have yet to require a second shot on any game animal. One of these years, I'm going to put a scope on my Springfield Armory M1A and take it deer hunting...

It's a toss-up between a Weatherby Mark VSafari Grade Custom, and Dakota Model 76 African. [8D][8D]Good luck.

I own an M1, love the rifle, and use it in hipower service rifle competition, but I'm not dumb enough to make claims that its more accurate than an M16.

I'd have to completely disagree with this comment. The M1 was loved by the old brass due to its knockdown power and accuracy. According to a special I watched on theHistory Channel, the M1 is effective out to 1000 meters. The M16 replaced itdue to decreased weight and recoil. You could carry a lot more ammo for the M16than you could for the M1at a given weight. Plus, it was much easier to fire for greenhorn recruits who'd neverused a gun.
Plus, research was done to show that the superior range on the M1 wasn't necessary, since most soldiers didn'ttake shots past 100 meters.

Tykempster, here is the link to the gun in the pic. It also has information about other huge, long range guns like this.

I have to say that I love the new Remington XCR I used to think that the Remington Titanium was the best but at nearly half the price and only 1.5lbs or so more weight and it’s hard wearing super tough coating and surprisingly smooth bolt operation and round feeding,I think it’s my new number one.

The Browning .50 machine gun. It is still serving troops everywhere since its introduction.
