Model 7s are great guns. Ihave one (1986) in 6mm rem and absolutely love it. My favorite whitetail gun. I can't wait to get my mitts around one of those new ones in a cdl model.

i've got one, whoops i mean my wife has one, in 260 rem, great shooting and handling gun, perfect treestand gun, i have shot them in 243, 260 , 7mm-08, and a 308, i think you'd be happy with any of them, i know i like'em, if my wife is not hunting, which is about 98% of the time, i take her 260 with me, now just about the only time i'm taking one of my guns is if i'm hunting a big bean or cornfield or if she hunts, i like it that much;)

its good to hear positive post about them. it is being short a good thing or bad and being short will the recoil be worse in 308?

the model seven is light so, generally speaking, you could probably find more actual recoil with it compared to a bigger model. But the .308 is not known as a very punishing round no matter the case, and if somehow it does affect you, stick a limbsaver pad on it. That will work. Recoil from a .308 is generally about the same, imo, as a 12 gauge shootin regular field loads or so. Not bad at all.

That 300wsm in that model may be a littledifferent story for you.

One other caliber thatwould be attractive in that model that would compare somewhat with the .308would be that 270wsm. Looks like a killer. good luck. let us know what happens

The model seven is built on a different action than the 700.I owned two in 7mm-08 and was very pleased with them as far as light weight and accuracy. However the light weight certainly does increase recoil.I myself prefer the 7mm-08 over the 308win.

I have the Model 7 SS in .308. It is a wonderful gun, easy to carry and point, and shoots pretty good to. The only thing I don't like is that due to the fact that the barrel is so slender, it heats up rather quickly if you are target practicing. But, if you remember to go slow that isn't a problem.

I have owned one in .308 and now have one .350 rem mag ( custom KS ) and love them. Light and handy, great treestand and walking around rifle. Wish I also had one in 7mm-08.
