I was looking in the local Pawn shop today and found a Winchester Model 100 in 358 Win. (auto Loader). I have not seen many in 358. The rifle is in very good shape However It may or may not have had the stock refinished. I'll be darned if I can tell. The checkering is pretty sharp and does not look as though it was sanded down. The Blueing is very nice. Anyone know what it might be worth? They want 450.00 for it. I don't know if he will dicker or not as the guy who owns the place was gone for the day. I have never owned one of these though I shot one in 308 caliber belonging to my brother.

Looking at the internet gun sites they all seem to be going for $600 or more in .308 and 90% or better condition. Seems that $450 would be a good price but it's always worth trying to work out a deal.

Thanks. I think I will try to deal a little on it. According to what I can find out, there seems to be no info on the 358 chambered in the 100.

Yes, I have been trying to find out some information about this chambering also. Everything that I can find suggests that there were only three chamberings. The .308, .284, and .243. I did find one article that suggests there may have been a very few number of 100's chambered in .358 but the author has never personally seen one in original condition.
I strongly suspect that this one is a rebarrel and refinish job.
Would definetly be a cool little gun though.

I'd like to hear how it shoots! I remember gazing through catalogs annually back when that rifle was in production. I don't recall a 358 build either, but what do I know. Interesting find here.

Do the barrels of these guns (Model 100) have the Winchester name or proof marks stamped on them from the factory? If they did, and this one does not, it would seem to be a re-barrel job,do you think?
No information I find indicates there was any factory production of a .358 in that model, although stranger things have been known to happen.........

I may have to check it out again tomorrow. I was so suprised to see that gun in the pawn shop that I forgot to check some of this stuff out. I don't know if I will buy it or not yet but I knew they were closed today so I can llok again tomorrow. I once had a Browning lever in that caliber. It was a pretty effective round.

I looked at the rifle again. Its been rebored and has a 5 stamped over the 0 in 308
. Well as a shooter it maybe be fine and thats a good caliber but no real collector value. I quess I will pass as I have more than enough irons in the fire.
