Default Mini-14-Will it meet my needs?

I don't really need a super long range tack driver as the longest range I have access to is only 100 yards and anything I shoot at in the woods is usually a lot closer than that. I really want a centerfire that is cheap to shoot without handloading and could consistantly hit a clay pidgeon at about 100 yards. I'm also considering one of the less expensive savages. Sometimes semi-autos can be fun, though.

If you can aford to feed your habbit it would be great for most shooting out to 150yrds. Didn't you ever see the A-Team. That's all they used and they always hit their mark.
Enought jokes. Yes the mini 14 is a great gun for 100 yrd shooting. If you put a scope on it it should shoot to 200yrds. The ammo is cheap but if you reload it can be cheaper. It would perform well on coyotes and foxes if needed for hunting. JPB

I was about 4 when the A-team was on. I wouldn't watch it because I was terrified of Mr. T.

I watched the A-Team too, and don't remember anyone ever being shot with the AC-556 (mini-14), they are that inaccurate

I always reccomend the SKS- its twice the gun at 1/4-1/2 the price depending on the flavor that you buy.

I'll vote for the SKS too. You can get a lot of accessaries for it cheap.

I have had a Mini 14 in 222 since 1987. Once I figured out that the accuracy left a bit to be desired I put it back in it's box and have not shot it much. I have since purchased another in 223.
I would love to find a Mini and have a heavy barrel installed, not just a weight hanging from the end and other accuracy work and have other accuracy work on it making it sub MOA.
I believe the work can be completed for about the same ammount as what I have in my Colt AR-15 and have the accuracy be equal
