Is this a new caliber/gun for you? if so congrats.

Alot of hunting writers consider the 270 with a 130grn bullet the perfect choice for whitetails. Itll be a caliber that you wont grow out of. And unless its something that can eat you, itll be plenty of gun. good luck

The answer is YES. It will handle deer Elk and Bear. Black Bear that is. Many have used it for Grizzly as well but its on the light side for that duty. It will do well on elk if you are a decent hunter and a decent shot. As with any caliber, shot placement is the most important factor BY FAR. Anyone who can put the 270 in the vitals of any North American Big game animal will be successful. It comes down to just that.

There is no better rifle for deer.

it will handle all three animals but with deer i would use the 130 gr bullets and for bear and elk i would use the 150 gr bulets.

sure...it will handle them all.... I would like to go a bit larger for the grizzly...but i have read that some people do use the 270 for grizzly. so I dont see why you couldnt do it if it was your only option. good luck.

I saw your other post about always having shot a 3006 and wanting to put on a recoil pad on itto make it more comfortable. I'd recommend a Limbsaver or a Pachmayer recoil pad and make sure the rifle still fits you with the recoil pad added. If youfix your 3006 then you have one of the all time most versitile rifles out there. Also, if you are keeping the 3006 I would recommend AGAINSTgetting a270 because the recoil is about the same andin my opinion270s arentanything special when compared to a 3006 as thebullet dropjust isn'tthat much better. Besides it pays toput some distance between yourcalibresso you can do a wide range of tasks with theminstead of having them all bunched up. If you are getting a second rifle then maybe consider a 223 or243 or25-06, or 260 (6.5mm). You mentioned elk the 3006 is asolid elk roundbut there sure is a lot of argue'nabout whether 270s areenough for elk.

The bad thing about the .270. Well........hmmm, I can't think of anything.
My old Rem. 700 in 270 has been all over with me and has accounted for a bunch of mounts on my wall. It has done everything I asked it to do and has dropped critters from ranges of 25 feet to way, way out there.
Oh yeah, there is one thing wrong with it. It doesn't give my other rifles a chance to get out with me. Its just jealous I guess.

The 270win is a great deer cartridge but it is at the minimum for elk.It certainly will kill elk,but I prefer a larger bore and more energy.
