6mm remington

Factory ammo is loaded to a maximum C.O.L. of 2.8", making it a short action caliber. But the case length is such that the longer bullets wind up getting seateddeeper than optimumat this length restriction.

If you are asking because you are getting a replacement stock Im pretty sure its a long action. I called Boyd Bros about a replacement stock for a 788 Remington and they considered it a long action for a replacement stock.

it's in the same length class as the 8mm mauser , 7 mm mauser , and .257 roberts , so my view would be that it's long action

I think this is a fine varmint cartridge and I have come close to buying one myself. Reading the various notions about why the 243 outsells it, one of the points I have heard is that it does not fit into the medium length action that a 243 does.
It is in a length group with the old mausers so my "vote" is long. But not long like the Holland & Hollands. Of course, in a single shot action length is a moot point. Go single! :-)
