Sako's latest - the model 85
In the most recent Safari Club Int'l magazine there were pictures of the latest Sako centerfire rifle, the model 85. It looks interesting and has some features not found on the model 75. For instance, the action is CRF, though it does not use a claw extractor like traditional CRF actions. The detachable magazine, which was already the best IMO, has been improved to reduce the chance of accidental detachment (I've never had a problem with the current design). The stock has been redesigned to a more classic American style with a straight comb. Many of the features are carryovers from the model 75, like the dovetail scope mounts. Personally, I wishthey used traditional screw-on type bases since there aren't a lot of choices available to fit those dovetails.
I'm looking forward to seeing this rifle in person. I hope it's not too long before they start showing up in stores.

All I know is that every change has resulted in lower standards from 1972....the end of the Bofors era. Having said that, who knows? Until the thing has some feedback.....who knows??? I like the idea of a more traditional stock...actually, Sako designed the classic American stock in the late 50's. I'm leaning forward in the foxhole! Regards, Rick.
