RE: Remington 1100 Shell Size

Hi,

This is off of the cabelas website, but can also be found in the Remington printed catalog.

"The 1100 Steel Shot barrel can be used with non-magnum receiver, you can shoot 2-3/4" magnum lead or steel or 3" mag. steel shotshells. DO NOT USE 3" mag. lead. Used with a magnum receiver, you can shoot 2-3/4" mag. or 3" mag. steel or lead shotshells."

Basically, if your friend has a 12 gauge Magnum receiver (should say magnum on the side of the gun) he can shoot 3 inch lead. If he has a standard 2.75" receiver, he should not shoot 3" lead shells.

I have both a 12 and 20 gauge magnum 1100 that will shoot 3" shells. Luckily I also have extra 2.75" barrels for each.

I own a 1100 LT-20. It is 3" Highbrass only! I can shoot 3" lead shot out of it for upland bird hunting but that is way to expensive. I use it for duck hunting only.

My father has 2 1100's that are magnums. They both fire 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells with no problems. There was a couple of years that Remington made the 1100 in 3 in. models. I have gotten in many arguments with people cause the insist that his guns are the 11-87 because they fire 3 in. shells. But they are both 1100's and fire any 2 3/4 and 3 in. shells we can put in it.
