Remington 700

After looking at a bunch of rifles i have narrowed my search and i think that i will be purchasing a Remington 700 SPS Stainless in either a 270 wsm or a 30/06... This will be my first rifle i have ever purchased and i was wondering if the SPS would be a good dependable hunting rifle.

The 700sps is a verydependable and usually accurate rifle.However due to the very limited selection of 270wsm loads,I would stick with the 270win.If you want the flatter trajectory ofa magnum Iwouldsuggest the 7mmremmag as there are many more factory loads available with nearly identical performance.

i would go for a 270 win. however my dad owns a couple of them and a 7mm rem mag that is why i am going for the 270 wsm if it wasn't for that i would go for the 270 win as my first choice

The 700 is about as solid as you can get, they have proven themselves time & time again.I like the idea of the short magbut they kind of remind me of the 6.5 rem mag and the 350mag, they were great for A while then faded away, time will tell.Did you consider A 280?

According to Remington's website the 270 wsm is not chambered in the stainless sps.

i didn't think that the stainless sps was chambered in 280 rem. if it was, that would be my next purchase.

yeah i realized that a few minutes ago VAhuntr i believe they do offer it in the standard SPS i am not sure

That24 inch barrelon the 270win will only help unless u hunt a lot of brush.

I am currently in the process of consolidating funds to purchase anew Remington 700 SPS Stainless rifle in 7mm-08. Debating whether to mount another VX-II 3-9x40mm or a VX-III 2.5-8x36mm. That outfit will nicely fill the gap between my223 and30-06 Ruger KM77s as an all-rounder.

Looks like theydo offer it in the SPS. Another option you could look at would be Savage. I have a model 16(stainless, synthetic) in 270 WSM that I bought last year. The rifle has the accu-trigger and IMO is more gun for the money than the Remington 700 SPS.
