You might want to shoot a few more to see how it groups, and to check your point of impact at 50 yards. Also wouldn't be bad idea to take a really close up shot incase one comes in real close. That would give you fairly a good idea what the gun will do at different ranges.

I think with those buck hammers you are going to need to clean the barrel pretty well too. I think they are a compbination of a sabot and foster slug. I believe some lead is in contact with the barrel while it comes out.

Out of curiousity what kind of groups are you getting. I haven't tried the buck hammers yet.

RE: Need help building my slug gun

I have found that the Nikon Monarch Sabot 1.5-4.5 is an excellent scope. I really like the Leupold VXII 1-4 and yes, believe it or not, the Bushnell Banner 1-4x32. All three of these scopes are on my shotguns, and muzzleloader, and I really have no complaints with any of them. Some bushnells have a bad rap, but the low power shotgun scopes are workhorses. I have had the rifled sight barrel on an 870 Express Deer, the 23 inch rifled barrel on the Special Purpose Super Slug 870, and they all kick like a horse. I think you've done good with the 1187 and a rifled slug barrel. I shoot the 3 inch Platinum Tip Winchesters 400gr. They just kick too much for pump guns. My Browning Gold with cantilever is on it's way. It's coming with a Leupold 1.5-5 VXIII IR. Hope it shoots well. I'll post results when it comes in.
