RE: What grain bullet does everyone use?
Well, I prefer the 175-grain Nosler Partition in mine. It has great penetration for heavy game, yet lower velocity, so it destroys less meat on lighter stuff like deer. In addition, my Ruger No. 1B shoots 175-grain bullets into 1" at 200 yards.
I know a lot of people say "if you're losing too much meat with the lighter bullets,it's because you are shooting them in the wrong place!" True! BUT, a deer doesn't always pose for you broadside with no obstructions in the way so that you can shoot them straight throughthe ribs just behind the shoulders every time!! RE: What grain bullet does everyone use?
The only 7 Rem Mag I have owned shot really well with the 160 Sierra Gameking, and killed game pretty well too. I would stay away from shoulder shots on elk . . . . had a bad experience with this once; but otherwise it was a very effective at putting meat on the pole.

RE: What grain bullet does everyone use?
I always liked the 150 NP's for all around hunting in a 7 mag., untill you get to moose and big bears, then i switched to 175 NP's.
In my test, those 175 NP's would out penetratemost of the bigger bore expanding bullets (like 458's and 375's) and that's why they work so well on big bears. They will really break them down! Drilling Man |
