Default .444 Marlin levergun

Just snatched one of these up. Not because I needed it... just wanted it. One local dealer had one for $600.00. I said no way Jose. Got a Wally World special for $416 and change. Now to scope it. Anybody with "been there, done that" ideas? Was looking @ a Sightron S11 2.5-10 X 32 or a Leupold VX11 1-4 X 20. What does everybody think? Thanks for any input.

The low powered Leupold should be ideal. I had a 2.5X Weaver on mine - worked great.

ide go with a willams peep sight or ghost rings forget the scope i posted same question for my 45-70 marlin after going through 3 or 4 scopes leupold will hold up but you dont need to spend lots of $ on a scope for a gun that shoots the same or better with the peep sight or ghost rings by better i mean they are just as accurate but very fast i put on the willams peep sight cost $40 and when i get the funds i will switch to wild west guns ghost rings about 150

2-7X at the most. Personally I wouldn't scope it at all and buy a peep sight. I prefer a receiver mounted peep vs. a tang mounted peep. Something like this one in Brownells.

I originally had a Williams receiver sight on mine, but went to the scope after I saw a nice bull elk slipping through the trees about 100 yards below me - right a first light - and couldn't see the sights to get a shot. In good light, I can shoot the receiver sights almost as well as a scope.

I have a low power variable Leupold on mine and really like it. Wouldn't recommend anything else.

I had to go with a scope on my Marlin lever gun because I have crappy low light vision and need correction for both close in and far distance. I thinkit helpeda lot. I tried a red-dot on a friends' and didn't like it. I'd like to shoot a few times with a peep or other upgraded sight, but the OEM iron sights weren't doing it for me; I just didn't feel confident.

I opted for the smallest (size and mag.) scope I could find in my price range ("medium quality and price") and settled on a Weaver V3: 1-3 X20. It was one of the smallestin sizeout there and actually smaller than theWeaverfixed, but a little more expensive. It has an excellent wide FOV.

So far, I'm very happy with the Weaver's over all quality, clarity and brightness. I consider it a pretty darn good scope for the money. I also liked the range (1-3) which was more than adequate for the area I'll hunt with this gun. With my old 30-06, I always kept my Leupold 2-7 on 2 in these woods. I shot my deer this year on about 1.5 or so.

Thanks everybody for the feedback. I was thinking (originally) about going with a peep, but my eyes aren't what they used to be. Also, with the new Hornady ammo due out soon, the effective range should be increased. That's why I'm gonna scope it. I'll probably get a Leupold, but the Sightron is quite highly regarded for the money. I do know Chuck Hawks likes them... for what that's worth. I just want to get a decent, lightweight scope with good eye relief. I've got several Leupolds already and they have treated me kindly. Anybody else have any suggestions?

I like the Leupold varx II 2x-7x with the heavier crosshairs. This works well on my 444.My brother in-law uses a simmons 2x-8x on his 444 outfitter.
