Default SKS question!

I was looking at sks' just for fun. I have heard that the new yugo ones have a crappy grenade launcher and sight permanently attatched. Is this true? If so which one should I look at? Anyone on here have one they want to get rid of you think? Thanks in advance!

The yugo 59/66 are cheap, well made and have a very cool permanently attached grenade launcher and sight. I certainly don't want to get rid of mine.

That is a nice looking rifle but I wanted to see the grenade launcher. BTW can you pick up the grenades for it at Wally World? lol.

The grenade launcher is just the muzzle brake looking thing on the end of the barrel, along with a flip up grenade sight. I'll post pictures of it tomorow.

As for grenades- you can't buy them, or if you could, you would have to pay the $200 destructive device tax for each one- very costly fun. Fortunately, you can make dummy grenades very easily. You need a few M1A2 grenade adaptors (see http://samcoglobal.com/access.html) and you attach a tennis ball to the adaptor and hold it in place with electrical tape. All you need is 7.62x39 blanks to launch them up to about 200 yards.

I own a Chinese SKS and I have worked on it a bit to accurize it. My buddies are amazed when I can bang away on a 12" target at 300-yards and smack it again and again (untill it heats up too much). Polishing the bore, bedding the stock, a bit of trigger work, hard mounted scope mount (Choate Machine Tool) and a muzzle brake seemed to improve accuracy a whole lot. It works good for multiple coyote encounters.

I've had two Chinese versions-one a war trophy, and the other a Norinco commercial model. The Norinco is pretty accurate, about 2 MOA....

I installed an M1 Carbine rear sight on top of the recoil spring cover on the military one by contouring the sight base and sweating it on. It required the front sight to be screwed out to the full-up location, but made it a lot easier to shoot well.

I used to have a chinese, a russian and now I own a yugo. The russian is best. But I needed money and had to sell it. Incidently, I hear the East German ones are the best
