To be honest it would be hard to go wrong with any of the calibers they offer in that gun...lol. I like Mossy's answer about buying both. Just pick the one that feels the best in your head because you are gonna be well served with any of them. I'd probably lean 30-06 or 270 because of ammo cost and availability.

06 ammo is cheaper, has more selections, andis found anywhere in the world. the 7mm mag IS a great all around caliber. However...college kid on a budget...cheap 30-06 ammo would be nice down the road. performance wise its a toss up. Although the 06 can be loaded w/ heavy bullets, which is usefull at times.
