RE: A great starter rifle?

For deer hunting you sure don't need the blast and recoil of any of the Magnum rifles. Look at the 260, 6.5x55, 7MM-08 or 270. More than enough power out to 400 yards. Also the 25-06 would be a good choice.

the .308 is not a bad round, it is fairly fast and in my experience extremely accurate and precise, with not much recoil.

RE: A great starter rifle?

Thanks for all the feedback. I have narrowed the caliber down to the 270. And I have found 2 rifles that I like alot and have heard nothing but good things about. One is the Remington 700 ADL for $279. And the other is the Mossberg 100 ATR for $239. I am trying to get as much information as possible before i purchase anything. I am hoping to have a decision by this weekend so I can get it and have it sighted in by the late gun season here in Tennessee. Thanks again for all the feedback.
