What can anyone tell about a winchester .444? Are they good deer rifles? I shot one a couple weeks ago and thought my 30/30 was more comfortable to shoot. Then I found one at local gun store that was long enough to fit my large size and very nicely balanced for me. We were made for each other it felt like. Is $489 about the right price?

The .444 Marlin caliber"is" a good close to medium range deer/blk. bearround, but it does have a more recoil than a 30-30. If you can handle the recoil, it will kill deer sized game easily.
My brother has harvested a LOT of deer with his .444 Marlin, and likes it as a deer rifle a lot!

With the right bullets loaded it is more than capeable of taking on any game this continent has to offer and, most all game animals around the world.
There are some awesome loads available from Buffalo Bore, Corbon, Conely precision, and I am sure some others as well. The Hornady 265 grain loading is probably the best all around load for all of the North America deer species.
