i too have shot one at under 50yrds and it didnt exit. as far as personal experience and past family experience i would use a 30-06 to me its ideal for deer. most people say its to much gun but would you rather have a dead deer or a wounded deer that the ?

Where I hunt in Wisconsin, Black River Falls, anything under 100 yards will be owned by a 12 gauge 3in 1oz shell.
