Default Ruger GP 100

I just picked up my new pistol in .357 mag and got to shoot it. Ruger has really made a nice pistol in this gun I wish I had got one a year ago. ? this is my first .357 mag what is a good home defence round to use in this gun with one shot stoping power. thanks

Based on everything I have ever heard or read, the only load for the .357 Magnum for personal defense is a stout 125 gr JHP out of at least a 4 inch barrel. While I am sure that Gold Dot, Hydra Shok, Golden Sabre, or Silvertips all would be fine, I prefer the plain old Federal 125 gr JHP (and it seems that the few law enforcement agencies that still issue the old wheel gun would agree). I rarely carry my SP101 in .357 Magnum anymore, just because I feel better with 3 times the available firepower (5 shots vs. 15) in my Glock Model 19, and it is only a little bulkier and about the same weight.
