The .264 Win and .257 Weby are about as flat shooting as you can get in deer rounds.With their reasonable recoil you can tolerate practicing with them enough to take advantage of all that reach as well.

It's not the cartridge that is causing the animal to be shot multiple times or needing to track the deer. Remember that more power is not a cure for bad shooting.
Long range deer calibers would include..... .243 Winchester; 6mm Remington; 25-06; 257 Roberts; 257 Wea mag; .270 Winchester, WSM, & Wea. mag; 280 Remington; all the 7mm magnums; all of the 300's,
