How should I clean my Leupold VXII with a thick layer of dust on the lense? I just got the gun back from my cousin a Micro MedallionAbolt in 7mm08 and it is a little dusty.
Thanks

I suggest spraying with a spray bottle with water. Then when wet, take a cotton cloth and gently wipe off. Then I use ziess lens cleaner. If you try to brush off, you might scratch the lens or the coating.

The best way to do it is give it back to your cousin to clean. J.K. I use those compressed air cans for spraying keyboards and computers. Works perfect, just don't hold it really close.

I went to a Camera store and bought a lense cleaning kit. It has a Blower Brush, cleaning solution and lense cleaning tissues.First one I bought at W*M. Last time I checked they no longer carried them. The complete kit was only a few dollars.. I suggest buying some Butler Creek flip up scope covers. They really help keeping the lenses clean and protect them from the elements.

This is something I picked up from another web site and I would use compressed air can same as elgallo mentioned. (When cleaning your scope, the lenses should be cleaned with the same lens tissues and cleaning solutions as camera lenses. Do not use "Windex" or regular tap water as they can attack the lens coatings or possibly scratch the glass.)
