Buying a 30.06

Id like to get a new 30.06 for next year. What would you recommend in the $600.00 and under range?

I'm a fan of the Winchester M-70 but there's a lot of other gyns out there in that price range. Howa has established a good reputation. Savage is attracting a lot of followers. Remington's pump is a fine gun if bolt actions are not in your liking.

I just bought a fine .30-06 in a Mauser post war action (J C Higgens) for $220. This is a very fine gun so don't be afraid to look around the used market as well.

I would go with a Winchester Model 70 Classic Sporter, Feather Weight, or Compact.

I own a JC-Higgins Model 51, and according to my resurch the rifle was made at Fabric National in Belgium. Check out "Rifles Of The World" by John Walter.

Good luck.

Look at the Weatherby Vanguard- it is a Howa with an accuracy guarantee!
