IIRC there are two types of BOSS - one that provides recoil reduction (thus venting somegas and noise rearward) and another that is only intended for accuracy improvement...the latter supposedly having minimal change to sound pressure to the shooter....

I think it is 3.0,but you can get the settings for the boss on the browning web site.
I have a 7 mag and a 300 wsm in the browning stalker with boss,but if I ever buy another browning it won't have a boss on it.
As far as recoil the boss on the 7 mag really helps but on the 300wsm it still kicks pretty good to me.
I made the mistake of shooting the 300 the first time with out hearing protection but won't make it again I hope.It not only made my ears ring it really hurt.
I shot a few groups taking the boss off with the 300 and my tiny groups went too.These were with reloads don't know about factory loads.

well, i shot it last night and was really impressesed with my groups. I had it set on a 1.5 for the 180gr. bst. it did fine so I 'm not going to monkey with it anymore. I had headphones on but it didn't seem any louder than the other big guns on the range....recoil wasn't too bad either actually a lot less than i expected.

Don't get the underware all in the bunch there captian, but every time your ears ring there is hearing damage plain and simple. It takes time and repatition for the effect to build up, and usually hearing falls off very subtly and very gradually (read undectable by run of the mill tests,) and then tanks all of a sudden. Sorry I isulted you, was just floating a warning to people. I work in a enviroment conducive to hearing loss, and I don't want my fun stuff to add onto what I spend money to avoid at work.

I also work in an environment conductive to hearing loss and that is why we are tested regularly.My point is that no hearing loss has been detected over a 25 year period shooting guns without brakes and except for that one shot with a brake my ears have never rang from shooting.However,Idid give anexamplewhere a single shot with a brake caused permanent hearing loss that was detected through our regular tests.My point is to show just how much more of a threat a brake adds to the risk of hearing loss.
