I have never hunted elk, but I would think a premium 180gr. slug would do the trick.

Either a 165 or a 180 grain of premium construction for a lead core bullet. TBBC, Accubond, Partition, Interbond, A-frame, Scirocco, Grand slam, Fusion.

Even a 150 grain Barnes X bullet as the Barnes bullets retain 100% of their weight nearly 100% of the time.

I am with bigbulls. 150 to 180s. Good luck on the elk hunt.

I would recommend the 180s. There is a great selection of great 180 grain elk bullets in 30-06.

180-200....the .30-06 is enough case to push even the 200 to excellent speeds...around 2,700 if you wish...2,600 for sure.

Most would agree that the 180 is enough however. Nosler partitions have a very long list of satisfied customers.

Any premium bullet such as the tsx or failsafe will work fine in weights of 150gr or more. With conventional bullets 180gr works well.
