RE: elk hunting

Agreed 150-180gr in the likes of a Barnes or Failsafe. 165-180gr in the conventional premium lead bullets such as: Nosler Partition, TBBC, A-Frame. 180-200gr in the bonded polymer bullets such as: Scirroco, Accubond or Interbond.

Enjoy your hunt.

ORIGINAL: dh4stretch3

what grain bullet would you use for elk hunting in 30-06 caliber?
180's are heavy enough, and if you use a premium bullet, a 165 will suffice. But I prefer the 200-grain Nosler Partition in my two .30/'06's, because they are the most accurate I've found for these two rifles.

165 grain Barnes XLC with .505 BC and near 100% weight retention.
