Rem. 700 trigger
 

I got a Rem. 700 BDL in 30-06 and want to lower the trigger pull. Anyone know approx. what the stock pull is on my gun? What would you recommend me going down to for hunting (lbs. of trigger pull)?

The stock trigger is designed for 3 - 7 lbs. Remington normally sets them at the upper end of that...so it could be 5 - 6 - 7 lbs, something like that. For hunting, 3 - 3.5 lbs is fine....and I wouldn't go lower than that, if I were you. I've heard that the Rem. triggers can be adjusted down to 2.5 lbs with safety...but as that is outside of the design parameters, I've never tried it. You'll never feel the difference between 2.5 and 3 lbs anyway. Whatever you do, just be SURE that it's safe. If you do not have experience with this sort of thing...and/ or are not comfortable with it....then most gunsmiths will do the Rem. triggers for as little as $25. The adjustment needs to done properly, with attention paid to creep and overtravel, as well as the break weight. A well-adjusted Remington trigger is very nice in use....that's why I've never switched to an aftermarket trigger on any of my Remingtons.

i had that very same problem with my bdl 30-06. i had it checked out and i believe it was averaging 6.5#s. they're pretty easy to work on just about any gunsmith can take care of it. i had it worked on and got it down to 4#s with absolutely no creep. the guy did it for free so i was happy. it really doesn't take long to do it either. at most i would expect about $25 for it. good luck with it.

I got a BDL in 30-06. Trigger was terrible..prob 8+ pounds with a mile of creep. My gunsmith worked wonders on all my 700's. Most are 3-3.5 but the 7-08 I bought last winter he changed the spring and got it down to a hair under 3. Usually charges me $10 bucks.

I got a new 700 BDL .30-06 last year. The trigger was pretty heavy, but crisp. I shot a few hundred rounds through it working up a load, and it eventually seemed to lighten up a bit. I have not measured it but I would guess it to be around 6 lbs, heavier than I would like but eally not bad for hunting. I also got a 700 Classic 8x57 last year, same story, heavy trigger but still crisp.

I've decided to leave them alone for now because they don't seem to impede my accuracy, at least to where I can actually measure it. Most of my accuracy issues are attributable to my shooting abilities rather than my weapons.

If you want to adjust the trigger yourself, here's a link with instructions. However, since the Remington trigger can easily be made VERY unsafe by someone who is not knowledgable, if you are the LEAST bit unsure of yourself then have a gunsmith do it for you.

Also, what does everyone recommend a good hunting trigger should be set at (lbs.)?

More than 2.5, less than 6.

IMO, 3-1/2 to 4 lbs. is good for a hunting rifle. For sure, nothing under 3# for me.

I set all of my 700's at 2.5 lb. but that's me...:D

Both these methods vary a little. Are they both safe ways of doing this or is one better than the other? How do you measure trigger pull, hook up a scale to the trigger?
