I just had a trigger redone an a Rem.700 300win mag. stock pull is 7.75lbs. I had it lowered to 3.5lbs. Take it to a gunsmith to lower it.

Simply adjusting the set screws you can take out the creep and all of the overtravel. However you may still have a gritty feeling trigger.

Remington, as well as many others, pack grease in their triggers to aid in a smooth, less gritty trigger pull. IMHO this is the cheap way of dooping the buyer into thinking they have an acceptable trigger right out of the box.[:'(] Remove the grease and the gritty feeling is likely to show up.

Any compitent gunsmith should easily be able to remove the grease from all the internal parts, polish up the engagement surfaces, adjust all of the set screws, and get a 2 pound trigger pull and still be 100% safe.

Personally I like to have my triggers set to 2.5 pounds. Unless you will be wearing very thick gloves this is a very acceptable weight. It provides you with enough resistance to know when you are pulling on the trigger but not too light to have it go off unexpectedly. If you do hunt in extreme cold and do where very thick gloves you would probably be better off with a 3 - 3.5 pound pull.

Looks like a good thread for this question-
I had a gunsmith massage my 700 adl trigger last year and it feels like a two stage trigger now.
Meaning I can apply pressure and the trigger will move until I feel it resist some, then after pulling some more it fires.
I watched what he did and read those two links whichmake the possiblefix look like somethingI can pull off.

Which of those three screws doI need to adjust to take the unnecessary travel out of the trigger?

Rear one. That will take out any creep. Screw it in slowly until it fires then back it off until you can have it cocked and bounce it off the floor (butt down) with out it firing.

The bottom front is the spring pressure and the top front is the over travel adjustment.

I like the Remington triggers. Partly because I can adjust them myself and its easy to get 3 1/2 lbs. Its cold where I hunt so thas plenty low for me.

if you hunt with gloves on this is some solid advice, 3# with gloves could get nasty, back when our ml'er season was in the middle of rifle season, i had mine adj to 3.5;)

They make a digital scale for measuring trigger pull which works very good . We recently bought a Remington 700 that had 9.2 lbs from the factory . got it reset at 2.9 lbs with a little adjustment .
