I'd just like to say, thanks to everyone for their input :D. I've finally decided on the 300 win mag. It wasa hard decision, but I'm sticking to it.

i shoot a 1of 500 S/S Remington 700 BDL 300 win mag, with Graystone laminate stock. it's my go to gun for any game, hog and up. love it over all the others i have had. 7mm was ok, just never got to liking it like i do the 300. best shot--running buck at 295 yds--thru heart and he hit the ground after one jump. haven't had a deer go over 30 yrds after being shot, and most go down on the spot.newest play thing-restocked a 7.62x54 russian mod. 44 carbine. looks great, just entirely too loud!! may have to let the son-in-law shoot it!:D

RE: 300 win mag vs 7mm Rem mag for deer/elk
I have shot both and killed whitetail with both and I see little if any difference. I would take the .300 on an elk hunt anyday!!! Good luck on your quest.

RE: 300 win mag vs 7mm Rem mag for deer/elk
Both of these cartridges are overkill for deer and pronghorns and not legal for dangerous game. Add in the other 30 cal magnums and the .270 weatherby and other 7MM mags along with the .338 mag, .340 mag and you have a 6 of one/half dozen of the other.
Certainly there's a difference on paper but that's where the differences end. They're all poor excuses for not owning a good .30-06 or .280 Remington and getting real good with it. |
