rs I am assuming you mean primarily in America and when I hear a term like "in" I think or equate it with "what's in style TODAY or of late". IMHO the old veterans like 30/06, 270, 308, 243, 7mag I wouldn't call them "in" so much as I would call them "old standards". They've been around long enough and have a long enough following to surpass a fad or be "in style".

IMHO the more "in" cartridge right now would be the 300WSM. I personally think it will be around with us for awhile and just might become part of that "old standard" list, but only time will tell. I suppose another arguement for cartridges that are "in" right now are the various super-mags like the RUMs, 30-378 and a few 308 Warbirds (hmmm I'm kinda partial too that last one myself! )

Time DO tell,

If you are talking about what is the most popular and sells the most ammo, my guess would be .22lr, .223 and 30-06.

As far as fastest growing and trendy, I would say the WSM loads and the .17 HMR

It would most likely vary on location as well. I don't think a lot of 30-06's get sold in my area because you can't hunt deer with a center fire in my area. Lower MI or Ohio. Inline ML's and 12 guages probably sell more. And maybe crossbows? Archery is pretty big here as well. I should go to my local gun store and ask them. I bet a firearms manufacturer would know as well.

I also agree the WSM, I'd say the 300 but the 270 seems to be gaining momentum.

I think the answers are determined by how the question is phrased. "IN" could mean the great 30-06, which (I have read) leads in ammo sales and reloding die sales for centerfire rifles. "IN" could also be meant to address the most purchased centerfire caliber for big game in the last calender year, and this could be the 300WSM, or some other "currently popular" caliber. As we learned from Bill Clinton, "it depends on what the meaning of IS is!"

I'm with Red on this one as well. I don't recall any caliber being talked about as much as the WSM's in the last several years....even the RUM's.

Another vote on the WSM being the in calibers.
