Mine is a custom I built on a M-70 short action and IMO it's the finest short action deer cartridge a going.
Deer die quick!!

I have to agree with vapordog it'sa great deer cartridge. I shoot the Hornady 129 gr sp in mine. My 260 is a Ruger alweather with a 3x-9x Leupold Var. X scope.

The .260 should have less recoil and the 7MM-08 should be better for elk and such....as a deer gun both are excellent but IMO the .260 with it's lesser recoil is a better deer cartridge.....easier to shoot and has fully enough energy and range to be a fine deer and pronghorn rifle.

not to be smart ,but due to lesser recoil making a better deer gun would a .243 be better than a .260 ?

naconst, I had this same question a while back and couldn’t decide between the 260 Rem. and the 7mm-08. The end result was that I decided to go with the 7mm-08 because of better bullet selection. Click on this link if you would like to read more about what everyone had to say.

I've seen a lot of deer dumped in their tracks with the .243.....and for sure it's a fine deer gun with the 100 grain bullets and it's range is surprising.

There are times when I'd like to have more bullet and penetration and the .260 provides that.....but the .243 is also a superb deer rifle.

The 260 is much more versitile than the 243. They use the same brass but you can go up to 160 grain bullets in the 260 while 100-105 is the max for the 243. I have the Ruger all weather 260 as well. I would like it much berret with a 24 inch barrel.

My frined has a Ruger 77 .260 and it will shot 1/2" groups at 100 yards. We hand loaded him some Hornady 95gr Vmax bullets for varmint and some 129gr SSTs for deer. The .260 is an excellent low recoil deer gun with plenty of power. We loaded the 129gr at about 2900 fps, I can't wait to see how it does on deer this year. If I had a .260 I would load up 130gr TSX bullets for it. In my opinion it is a better deer gun than the .243. The 7-08 is a good caliber too, it is basically an americanized 7x57 mauser which has been around killing criders for over 100 years.
