What do you think about the 7mm STW. Don't know much about it. Brother got one and ask me to site it in for him and tofind him a reloading round that will kick a**.

I think you have a mighty powerful gun for a 7 mm. ballistically its up near the top of the list. power trajectory and speed also are top notch. as far as finding a round that will kick A**. i dont think you need look farther than the shelves at a good ammunition supplier. after all he found a kick a** gun to begin with. it is a gun that will take down most any animal in North America. The STW was actually named after a hunting magazine S.hooting T.imes W.esterner. hence the name STW. I hope you have fun with this gun and are safe. I dont believe this is a round that really would have to be packed too hot either if you do decide to do some reloading.

I have owned three 7mmstw's since 1990and currently own two.It is a great long rangecartridge for a muchabove average shooter that has the skills and is willing to put in the practiseto take advantage of the very flat trajectory.However at ranges of 300 yards or less or in the hands of an average shooter,it offers nothing over the 7mmremmag.It also does have a shorter barrel life than the 7mmremmag and you must be careful to not overheat the barrel if you want to get reasonable barrel life.As such it is a poor choice for a one gun hunter.Factory loads are very mild and the cartridge is really not worth owning unless you handload.
