RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
Well school, I understand that. I guess I am confused. I have been on limited budgets in my life, believe meand the last caliber I would pick is something where ammo is like 35 to 45 dollars a box and have a barrel life of 1100 rounds or less. A good ole 7mmRemmag would be my high end choice on a budget. Ammo much more affordable and performance is great.
Thats the reason for the confusion. My budget was so limited from 1986 to 1994, that only had one rifle and that was a 7400 270 open sighted. The 270 was my choice cause I could get coreloks for 11dollars or so. Just a thought. |
RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
ORIGINAL: SCHOOLBOY Exactly, 750 is too rich for my blood. I can get a rem for under 500$. For someone on a limited budget 250$ is alot of money. |
RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
Like someone said above, get a 7mmRemMag and hunt anything you want. It is still .284 and will take anything the STW might. You may have toget just a little closer! You can find new and used 7mags well within your budget, and ammo isn't too expensive.

RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
I'm begining to relize that building a 7mm stw at a reasonable price is not realistic. I built a 35 whelen for just over 500$ (Savage 111 .270 close out special at Dicks 370 out the door, Adams Bennet close out special whelen barrel 108$ (Midway)shipped, go no-go guages 40$). Borrowed a barrel wrench from a friend and I have a whelen for 518$. I thought if I shopped around I could build a 7mm stw for around the same price but I guess not. A 7mm rem mag or wsm are the better option. Thanks for the imput guys.

RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
I love the accuracy of my 7mmSTW, but kinda surprised I am not getting better performance. Only getting a hair over 3100fps with 160gr accubond with 80gr of H1000. Some claim to get that with 78-79. Its a sako 75 26" barrel. Might try RL25.

RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
Schoolie if you are tied by financial restraints (lol get used to it because it only gets worse with a wife and kids!) then perhaps you might entertain a 700SPS in 300Ultra? We have one at work that is only $439. Like the ADLs the SPS' replaced, they are about as attractive as a 90 year old woman. BUT they will shoot and should give you 0 problems and be about as cheap of a supermag as you are gonna get.
Just a thought, RA |

RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
Stubble, do you know the date they changed? I have been using the H1000 extreme since 2001. Before, never had a need.

RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
I can't give you a date. All that I can tell you is that the new containers are marked extreme and the old containers weren't.The two batches behave like totally different powders. One of my rifles still shoots great groups with the old batch but will not shoot worth a damn with the new batch reguardless of the powder charge.
