Who makes a 7mm STW
Looking for a manufacturer who builds a rifle in 7mm stw, and what models. Thanks
|
RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
Ruger makes a #1 laminated stainless.
Winchester makes a model 70 classic, custom ultimate classic. HS Precision McMillan Bown precision Of course there use to be more manufacturers that chambered for this cartridge but as of late it seems to be falling by the wayside. You can look around for a used gun such as a Remington and Weatherbys. |
RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
The 7mmstw is a great cartridge but since remington started promoting the 7mmultramag,there is not a lot of interest in the 7mmstw.I own two 7mmstw's and a 7mmultramag and I prefer the 7mmstw.Your best bet may beto find and older magnum action 700 rifle at a cheap price and have it rebarreled to 7mmstw.

RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
There are a few 7 STW's on guns america I have a win.LAREDO it has a heavy barrel and composite stock .Kind of like a Remington Sendero.

RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
A couple of weeks ago there was a new(last years model) Sako 75 hunter in 7 STW at one of the local shops for $750. It's not really a popular caliber here in PA, so it might still be available. I'd be glad to give the number of the shop to anyone that wants to check on it.

RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
I bet she ain't 750 anymore. I love the caliber. Hey, if anyone sees any SS/syn 75 in 300RUM, let me know. Been looking for one.A few months ago, they were outstanding price. But seem to have jump back up to 900 range.

RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
Thanks Jason but that is too rich for my blood.
Is there a rifle made that I could just rebarrel to get a 7mmstw. Kinda like how I turned my .270 into a 35Whelen. I know that the 7mm stw is a rem 8mm necked down. Do any of the manufactures still make rem 8mm. Thanks |
RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
Any 700 rem magnum action such as the 7mmremmag,300remmag or .338 can easily be rebarreled to 7mmstw.

RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
$750 for a Sako 75 is too rich for your blood? How much can you get a remington for? Around here, about 500 dollars or more.
|
RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
Exactly, 750 is too rich for my blood. I can get a rem for under 500$. For someone on a limited budget 250$ is alot of money.
|
RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
Well school, I understand that. I guess I am confused. I have been on limited budgets in my life, believe meand the last caliber I would pick is something where ammo is like 35 to 45 dollars a box and have a barrel life of 1100 rounds or less. A good ole 7mmRemmag would be my high end choice on a budget. Ammo much more affordable and performance is great.
Thats the reason for the confusion. My budget was so limited from 1986 to 1994, that only had one rifle and that was a 7400 270 open sighted. The 270 was my choice cause I could get coreloks for 11dollars or so. Just a thought. |

RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
Like someone said above, get a 7mmRemMag and hunt anything you want. It is still .284 and will take anything the STW might. You may have toget just a little closer! You can find new and used 7mags well within your budget, and ammo isn't too expensive.

RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
I'm begining to relize that building a 7mm stw at a reasonable price is not realistic. I built a 35 whelen for just over 500$ (Savage 111 .270 close out special at Dicks 370 out the door, Adams Bennet close out special whelen barrel 108$ (Midway)shipped, go no-go guages 40$). Borrowed a barrel wrench from a friend and I have a whelen for 518$. I thought if I shopped around I could build a 7mm stw for around the same price but I guess not. A 7mm rem mag or wsm are the better option. Thanks for the imput guys.

RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
I love the accuracy of my 7mmSTW, but kinda surprised I am not getting better performance. Only getting a hair over 3100fps with 160gr accubond with 80gr of H1000. Some claim to get that with 78-79. Its a sako 75 26" barrel. Might try RL25.

RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
Schoolie if you are tied by financial restraints (lol get used to it because it only gets worse with a wife and kids!) then perhaps you might entertain a 700SPS in 300Ultra? We have one at work that is only $439. Like the ADLs the SPS' replaced, they are about as attractive as a 90 year old woman. BUT they will shoot and should give you 0 problems and be about as cheap of a supermag as you are gonna get.
Just a thought, RA |

RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
Stubble, do you know the date they changed? I have been using the H1000 extreme since 2001. Before, never had a need.
|
RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
I can't give you a date. All that I can tell you is that the new containers are marked extreme and the old containers weren't.The two batches behave like totally different powders. One of my rifles still shoots great groups with the old batch but will not shoot worth a damn with the new batch reguardless of the powder charge.

RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
I bet thats some of these fellas on reloadernest is getting all that speed.
|
RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
If you can't find a 7mm STW why not just buy a 7mm and bore it out to a 7mm STW that seems to make sense to me.
|
RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
I don't know if it is too pricey for you, but Weatherby chambers their Mark V in 7mm STW, and you cab buy them for $600. And Gunsamerica has a Winchester Mod.70 NIB for $450. Good luck

RE: Who makes a 7mm STW
WOW.. NIB 450$. If I had the money know I would be on that like a bum on a balognie sandwich. I don't expect that to be there for long. Thanks Longrifle.
