First off after its boresighted(saves shells) sight it in at 1 1/2" high at 25yds. Then see how it shoots at 100yds. It should be pretty close, then adjust accordingly.I would shoot at any game farther than 150-175yds max with a 30-30.They are not a long range gun, even though they at closer ranges are more than adequate.75yds is the adverage shot distance with a 30-30 in most instances. vangunsmith

vangunsmith we are talking about a 30-30 here not a 44 mag. wow set it up 1.50 high at 25 yards and you'll never hit a 15 inch target at 100 yards. you'll go right over the top. it needs to be about a 1/2 low at 25 yards. give the gun some credit at 200 yards it still has around 1000 foot pounds of energy left. which is more than enough for a whitetail. 200 yards would be well within the range of this gun. you are right a 30-30 is not a long distance gun but 200 yards is not really long distance. from what i see most hunters are way over guned for whitetails. myself i like a .308.

Thanks for all of the help everyone. I nevertoldya'llthat I am a lefty. The side mount sounds like it would work fine for myself or another lefty, but if a righty tries toshoot it then the sidemount would be a problem.
Right now I am planning on just using regular mounts. I know that it will probably make the iron sights useless, but it's either that or use the see-thru mounts.
